THE SANCTUARY
The sanctuary is full of wildlfe- zebras, giraffes, wildebeests and more. Get outside and explore nature around Maanzoni and discover the natural wonders. Flanked by majestic hills discover our incredible savannah . Walks are led by our amazing staff and often you will come across one of our wild residents.  The marathon run in the pristine and serene wilderness punctuated by occasional trumpeting of elephants and blaring of zebras is an unparalleled experience and from the accruals of the marathon, to support sustainable development of the local communities who live on the peripheral of the sanctuary.

THE MAANZONI LODGE
Situated in the Tropical Savannah Grassland, in the heart of Lukenya, stands MAANZONI LODGE; only 40 minutes drive from the city center of Nairobi and 25 minutes from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
We are set on a 10000 acre ranch that boasts great vistas and game such as zebra, giraffe, eland, swara, wildebeest, gazelle, ostrich just to name a few.
Ours is truly a tranquil nature lovers paradise

THE ROUTE

The 42 km course runs across diverse habitats and undulating landscape, crisscrossing through open plain grasslands and forest edge ascending to elevated rock outcrops and descending to woodland. Generally, the route consists of over 5km of single-tracks, and 15km of jeep tracks and 10km murram roads. The toughest section is from 12-15km, which is largely climbing. for most competitors, this run would feel like completing a full marathon on road. So, you cannot afford to be under-prepared. In a nut-shell, there are a few kilometers with loose rock surfaces, few kilometers of very narrow and uneven paths, hundreds of wildebeests/giraffes/zebras, a few hyenas, creek beds to cross, 3 tough climbs to conquer and wet-feet from creek crossing. The sanctuary holds incredible views from the hill tops.  Basic first aid is available at all water stations which are situated every 2.5km along the course. Experienced Game Rangers will monitor the course at all times . We also partner with Emergency Plus Medical Services (E-Plus) is a private company owned by the Kenya Red Cross who is available to provide Standby Ambulance services.
